Very excited to be working with a new client, ZUDDHA. Not only are these girls gurus in all the areas I admire (clean cooking, whole living, yoga) but they promote living a balanced life over any strict set of rules, and are totally groovy to boot.
I spent Sunday afternoon with them at The Gourmandise School in Santa Monica where they were teaching an Anti-Cancer cooking class. The topic of this class is particularly important to me as my sister was diagnosed with leukemia three years ago. Having no genetic markers for cancer, the cause of it was decidedly external, as a result of the elements she encountered in her everyday life.
The scary thing is that we all encounter these same things, and every day I hear more and more stories from others who have also been affected by cancer, either in themselves or someone close to them. To me this is an alarm that in order to live healthfully in the modern world, we must balance negative external factors such as environmental pollutants, stress, carcinogens and radiation exposure with a strong daily intake of active, nutrient-rich foods.
I am proud and relived to say that my sis is currently in remission, and although western medicine was her primary form of care, a strong colorful diet has maintained her health and she now cooks professionally for others with specific dietary needs. (Maybe I can even get her to share some recipes on this blog? wink wink Jules!)
