A few months ago I met a major inspiration– stylist, author, shop owner and globetrotter Sibella Court. She had a book signing at Anthropologie, which was perfect because I really needed a half dozen more tiny ceramic bowls. (Not really, but that’s what seems to happen every time I walk into that store!) Anyway, this time I left with only 3 tiny bowls, and a beautiful new copy of The Bowerbird.
The aptly named title refers to an Australian bird who decorates his nest with carefully and very specifically selected items like ribbons and shiny bottle caps to attract a mate. These birds are very particular about exactly where everything goes and even throw a fit if someone moves around their precious things!
The Bowerbird features 50 or so of her 100 collections of items, featured in combinations of still lives and decorated interiors, separated into categories like Beachcombing and Draper&Mills.
I love this book as I too am a collector of tiny objects from nature that might have little monetary value these days but are treasures to me; full of history and a representation of the live world we live in.
A great holiday gift for the collector in your life!
Sibella is currently working on is called Gypsy … I’m sure you can imagine how excited I am! Follow her on instagram for daily pretties: @sibellacourt
