I took a trip down to Palm Springs a few weeks ago to take care of some wedding details (4 months!!) and decided to turn it into a mini vaca as I’d been dying to check out the new Sparrows Hotel that opened in October.
Upon arrival, it’s clear that this is not your standard hotel. The front desk area consists simply of a cozy fireplace and check-ins are done the old fashioned way, with pen and paper. The owners here (the same ones who first opened Korakia) took great care to create an atmosphere of community and unplugged relaxation, and I’d say they totally nailed it. From the redwood and stone decor, warm desert breezes and quiet peacefulness, it had an undeniably similar vibe to the Zen Buddhist meditation retreat I attended years ago– minus the gardening work study and 5am Zazen, thank goodness.
It felt so amazing to just REST, float around in the saltwater pool and hot tub (open all night long, nightowls) and zonk out in the comfiest bed ever. The rooms themselves are also very zen, featuring private patios with full-sized daybeds, all stone floors and walls, no TVs or phones, and an open-air rain shower beside a former horse trough for bathing. Unfortunately I was too busy drinking icy orange spa-water in the jacuzzi to take a bath so that experience will have to wait until next time!
Check out the rest below– and un-fussy holiday seekers, welcome to your new favorite getaway.
Wood-fired pizza al fresco anyone?
The hotel is dog-friendly! It’s on a limited first-come, first serve basis so be sure to mention your pooch when booking. These sweet pups are the unofficial mascots of Sparrows Hotel and have the most adorable habit of giving each other kisses. Obviously they melted my heart.
Thank you for the recharge, Sparrows– I’ll be back!
